The Center for Scientific Computing's resources
Main hardware resources
The Center for Scientific Computing owns a computational complex, consisting of 615 servers. This amounts to more than 7300 cores devoted to scientific computing.
Part of these servers are the result of agreements with research groups from the campus, by which their servers are hosted at the facilities of the Center for Scientific Computing and in many cases even administrated by its staff. The access to such resources is exclusive to the research group's members.
The rest of the servers are entirely accessible by the users of the Center for Scientific Computing, being allowed to execute whichever operations they want via the available queueing system.
The computational complex is characterized by its high heterogeneity, meaning that in the server room of the Center for Scientific Computing several servers (Fujitsu, Dell, Supermicro, IBM, Lenovo, etc) can be found. Needless to say this heterogeneity does also include the existing processors, hence we can find a great variety of Intel and AMD processors.
Access to these resourcesIn order to access the main resources a user account must be requested to the Center for Scientific Computing.
The rules to access the secondary resources are different for each case.
Simulation lab, and reservations
The Center for Scientific Computing gives for professors at the UAM - CSIC Excelence Campus the opportunity to teach courses at the simulation lab, thanks to the availability of nineteen personal computers.
The simulation lab is located within the Faculty of Sciences, C8 module, first floor. It has 18 desktop computers for the students and one for the professor, with the following specifications:
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-10100 CPU @ 3.60GHz.
- RAM: 8 Gb.
- Storage: 500GB NVMe.
- Operative system: to be chosen by the professor.
- Software: any program required can be installed in the computer, as long as they have valid license.
As well as computers, the room has an interactive whiteboard with a short-distance projector.
The reservation and use of the simulation lab require complying with a set of specific rules, available in this pdf.
To reserve the lab one must fill in the following form, and within two working days we will get in touch with to discuss the request. The lab's opening hours is from 9:00 to 16:00. No reservations are admitted outside that timespan.
